The gingko trees on my street are full to burst. Their fan-shaped leaves have just started to drop, turning up on bike seats and car windshields. In the last week, the weather on the East coast has hit a wonderful stride. The sinking heat of August has lifted, and buildings everywhere are opening themselves to the street.

On a clear and frigid Thursday morning, I’m biking over the Massachusetts Avenue bridge. It is February, and RuPaul’s Drag Race has returned to television. In the past year, over thirty anti-drag bills have been filed across the United States, prompting much discourse about the importance of drag. It’s in the back of my mind as I head towards MIT campus. Today, I am visiting a modernist hero, Eero Saarinen’s 1954 chapel. I am looking for a moment.
